Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) has established five National Institute of Design and Analysis Centres at Sialkot, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta, while three more such centres would also be set up at Multan, Faisalabad and Kusar for producing skilled workforce and upgradation of industrial sectors disclosed Projects Director, TUSDEC Syed Anwar Ali.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Thursday at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) he said the concept of TUSDEC was to introduce modern technologies in industrial sector for brining innovation in products and help in improving the standard of the products. He disclosed that Tools, Dies and Mould Centres costing more than Rs 2 billion had been established at Karachi and Gujranwala and which are successfully catering the needs of local industries.
The Director Project TUSDEC further told that Ceramics Development Centre Eminabad costing Rs 321 million would be operational soon, while three engineering Centres at Hyderabad, Peshawar and Hub costing Rs 600 million were being set up with financial support of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and work on these centres would be undertaken in near future.
The concept of setting up these centres was to produce maximum trained and skill industrial workforce and training in modern technology he added. Syed Anwar further stated that induction of trained and skilled workforce in industrial sector would help in improving quality of production and enhance the overall productivity.
Earlier, addressing a seminar on CAD/ CAM technologies and other industrial application in tools, Dies and moulds held in collaboration with NIDA and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), he said that NIDA-Sialkot has initiated modern design technology and skills to help bridge the digital divide. Syed Anwar Ali further said that Sialkot is a most important export city of the country adding that Sialkot and its adjoining towns have an engineering and manufacturing sectors, which needs to enhance its quality and competitiveness.
The industrialists were keenly aware that their global market has become extremely competitive after the enforcement of WTO regime and manufacturers no longer enjoy the luxury of protective tariff barriers he said. They have to radically improve their products to cater the needs of a sophisticated, cost-conscious and aesthetically sensible global customer who is keen to patronise value addition and differentiated products. They have realised the impact on exports of new technologies, materials and designs in sports goods, surgical goods and other export specialities he added. To compete effectively, Sialkot manufacturers must develop their products from 'concept to reality' faster than ever, adopt new materials and associated design technologies. Innovative designs capable of meeting the export demand are now an imperative for the industry by quickly bridging the 'digital divide' he said.
In his address of welcome, President SCCI Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry said that this seminar was vital in development of industrial sector of Sialkot. He stressed the need of making such training workshops and seminars a permanent feature enabling SMEs to use modern industrial technology for competing international market with quality products. Project Director NIDA Shahid Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.
