Journalists on Tuesday staged a token boycott of Sindh Assembly in protest against the government's snail-paced progress to arrest the killers of TV journalist Wali Khan Babar. However, soon the newsmen returned to the press gallery and resumed their covering of assembly's proceedings.
The members of provincial assembly from treasury bench came immediately to the journalists and ensured them of possible actions against the perpetrators. Later on, Shazia Mari - a PPP legislator told the house about the journalists' token-boycott on which speaker Nisar Khohro said he was also aware and had noticed the movement. Mari said it had been almost a week of the Babar's assassination and informed the house about the journalists' views that none of the perpetrators had yet been arrested.
Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law, Ayaz Soomro said he had talked to the CCPO about the progress on Babar's killing, hoping the culprits would soon be brought to justice. He informed the house that there had been progress in the case with arrests of some people and the law enforcing agencies were interrogating them. Links in this connection would also be established shortly, he added.
