A division bench of Lahore High Court, headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry here Tuesday adjourned to 1st February the hearing of a bail petition of Hamesh Khan, former president of Bank of Punjab and principal accused in the bank's loan scam of rupees nine billion.
Barrister Ms Memona submitted power of attorney on behalf of Bank of Punjab for joining the proceedings and sought time to prepare for the case. The court, giving her time, adjourned hearing till next month on February 1. The counsel for National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appearing before the court submitted that Hamesh was the main accused in the scam and issued loans of billions of rupees on bogus papers so he should not be granted relief of bail.
On this, Hamesh's counsel Mehmood A Sheikh advocate criticised NAB, saying that the case had been investigated by more than one officers and there are more than one versions to it. Hamesh Khan is accused of sanctioning rupees nine billion to Harris Steel Mills against rules and regulations.
