A Lahore based local waste management firm, Waste Busters, has been awarded a contract by the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to collect and dispose off their hazardous waste materials in the region. This is the first international contract won by any Pakistani waste management company and has been awarded $500,000 contract through international competitive bidding process conducted by the UNMOGIP, says a spokesman of the company here Tuesday.
Waste materials produced during the various activities of the United Nations armed forces in the region ranging from Northern Afghanistan to the ports of Gwadar in Pakistan shall be collected through specially designed collection vehicles which would have all security precautions approved by the UNMOGIP.
The company shall be responsible for safe handling and scientific disposal of the collected waste materials and comply with all the international and local environmental regulations. The company has approached the EPA for its approval of the process.
