Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed concerns over the manner in which Nabeel Gabol is being harassed by the authorities in Karachi after his resignation as minister of state for ports and shipping on the grounds of being unable to fulfil political duties.
The fact that Gabol's house was raided immediately on his resignation reflects clear political victimisation as part of the 'give and take' going on between the government and its coalition partners in Sindh under the cover of an anti-terror operation.
Imran further said, "The fact of the matter is that targeted killings that have terrorised Karachi are a direct result of the upping of political ante amongst the power holders of the province. If Gabol is suddenly guilty of breaking the law immediately on submitting his resignation, he should be charged in a court of law and his alleged crime should be made public. By using such extra-judicial means and harassing him through raids at his home, government is once again exposing its dictatorial mindset with mafia-like tactics. The people of the city continue to be held ransom to the 'violent mafia politics' of the main holders of power - the PPP and MQM".
Concluding, the PTI chief said, "It should be evident to everyone that in the garb of saving democracy, how these political parties use blackmailing tactics to get a bigger share of the pie, while people of Pakistan are suffering from unprecedented inflation, unemployment, lawlessness and corruption." -PR
