Thousands of protestors under the banner of Thar Coal Action Board (Tharparkar), held protest demonstration and staged a sit-in in protest at Mithi, Nagarparkar road on Thursday, to register their resentment over appointing outsiders in Thar coal project.
Hundreds of office bearers and members of different nationalists parties, NGOs, representatives of civil societies including JSQM, Awami Tehreek, Maroara foundation, Sukar foundation and others led by Dost Muhammad Halepoto president Thar coal action board Tharparkar raised slogans against the Thar Coal Authority and concerned authorities for appointing outsider officers and lower grade employees in different phases of Thar coal projects.
The rally was taken out from Press club. The protestors blocked all entry and exit ways of Mithi, while traffic remained suspended for five hours. Speakers addressing the protestors said that fake commitments were made with Thari people for appointing locals in coalmine projects, but dozens of officers and lower grade employees having domicile of other provinces were appointed. They said that, Thar coal authority and the government assured various times about giving priority to Tharis, but all announcements were ignored at decision making level.
