The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Thursday issued arrest warrants of Chief Executive Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (Gepco) for February 22, for not appearing in a contempt of court petition. The contempt petition was filed by a removed a volleyball player of WAPDA team and lineman Khalid Younas.
Petitioner's counsel Ishtiaq Chaudhry pleaded that the petitioner was appointed as lineman in year 1995 on sports basis and had been represented Wapda on national and international level. The counsel said the Gepco authorities removed petitioner from his job on the pretext of being absent from duty. Though the fact that an employee recruited on sports basis is always exempted from attending the office, he added.
The removal was challenged before Federal Services Tribunal (FST) who ordered to reinstate him on his job. But the respondent authorities ignored the orders and did not reinstate him on his service. A writ petition was filed before LHC, which on June 23, 2010 also ordered the Gepco to implement on the orders of the FST but the respondents did not comply with court orders.
Consequently, the petitioner approached the court in a contempt petition seeking contempt proceedings against the respondents. Taking up the contempt petition, the court issued notices to respondent time and again but he did not turn up, therefore, the court issued his arrest warrants.
