Punjab University vice chancellor briefed about NGO's working

Susan E. Stroud, Executive Director, (Innovations in Civic Participation) accompanied by Mark Hibert, Cultural Attache US Consulate Lahore called on vice-chancellor Punjab University, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran here on Friday afternoon. Ms Susan Stroud represented The Talloires Network of USA. Speaking on the occasion, she said the network is an international collective of individuals and institutions committed to promoting civic role and social responsibilities of higher education.
In September 2005, when 29 president rectors and vice-chancellors from 23 countries gathered at Tufts University European Centre in Talloires, France for the first international gathering of heads of higher education institutions devoted to strengthening civic role and social responsibilities of higher education, they drafted Talloires Declaration, a consensus vision for the direction of civic engagement in higher education. The network was formed to promote action around the principles of the declaration. She said that in the field of 'literacy for all', Talloires Network collaboration on a global network contributes to Unesco's education for all campaign under Millennium Development Goals. Literacy is defined broadly to include reading instructions, numeracy, and political, financial and technological literacy.
