The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Friday directed the law officer to appear before the court on January 28 in a petition challenging appointment of Sardar Latif Khosa as Governor Punjab. Earlier, petitioner Muhammad Nawaz Cheema pleaded that Khosa was not eligible to be appointed as governor because he was removed from the office of attorney general of Pakistan on the directions of Supreme Court on corruption charges.
The court observed that the allegations against Latif Khosa have yet not been proved in any court of law. At this, the petitioner argued that Khosa, as advisor to prime minister on information technology, committed massive corruption and inducted his close relatives on key posts in the department. He said the respondent was removed from the office of attorney general on same allegations.
The petitioner stated that a person facing serious allegations corruption, misconduct, nepotism and bribery can not be eligible to be elected a member parliament under article 62 and 63 of the constitution, and the same qualification criteria applies for eligibility of a person for appointment as governor. He, therefore, asked the court to declare Khosa's appointment as unconstitutional and illegal.
