The Lahore High Court here Friday stayed conversion of park of Lahore Press Club (LPC) Journalist Housing Scheme into a residential area by way of carving out of it plots for as many as 295 newly inducted members of LPC.
The court, while issuing notice for February 11 next to Managing Director (MD) of Punjab Journalist Housing Foundation and members of outgoing elected body of LPC remarked that prima facie, bar existed on converting the allocated land for developing a park into residential plots.
The petitioner, a council member of LPC, Din Muhammad Dard, had contended that the body distributed forms among the members to provide them plots in the parks, disturbing the master plan and violating the law. He said that a land once fixed for developing park for the residents of the colony could not be shifted to any other purpose.
The petitioner also referred superior courts authorities to substantiate the point. After hearing the matter at the preliminary stage, the court passed interim order against conversion of the park and issued notice to the respondents for February 11.
