Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khyber Paktunkhwa and FATA has demanded of the Supreme Court (SC) to take suo-motto notice of the vote buying scam allegedly involving the elected representative from tribal areas. Addressing at a news conference, here on Tuesday, PTI Chief Organiser, FATA, Dr Bashir Ahmad said that the four elected Senators of tribal areas have been elected through horse trading in their election to the membership of the upper house of the parliament.
He said that accused representatives had spent millions to become member of senate. He said that the elected representatives had hurt the traditions and tribal norms, saying that tribal people elected for change, reforms and resolution of their problems confronting the Federally Tribal Administered Areas. Dr Bashir lamented that the revelation of huge level scam had exposed the bigotry character, adding that the elected representative did nothing for welfare of the tribal people.
Flanked by tribal elders, he said that millions of tribal people had been homeless in wake of ongoing military operation in tribal region, but the elected representatives have turned deaf ears over the issues, he maintained. PTI Provincial leader, Haji Iqbal Afridi said that the elected representatives had ruined the hopes and expectations of tribal people. He said the relentless situation of tribal areas had ample proof of the failure of the elected members.
He said that till the extension of the Political Parties Act, the tribesmen would elect illiterate people. He called for the holding direct elections for the election of the members of Senate from tribal belt.
He demanded the enhancement of the Senate members of FATA from four to eight to get representative to each agency in the Senate. He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo-motto notice of the alleged corruption of the elected representative tribal areas.
