The Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Dr Saeed Elahi, has said that the Post-Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Medical College Lahore, after getting the degree awarding status, would start classes from next year. He was addressing a ceremony held at the Lahore General Hospital here on Saturday in which certificates were distributed among the students who completed First Dialysis Course.
He said the free of cost dialysis programme was initiated in the government hospitals during the Nawaz Sharif regime which was suspended by the past regime. Nawaz Sharif after assuming charge as prime minister had provided Rs 500 million for this purpose, he added.
Elahi said that recommendations for timely completion of development projects, recruitment of new staff after increasing beds by 300, and establishment of nephrology are being submitted to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval. The committee formed to resolve nurses' and doctors' problems would submit its recommendations next month, he added.
Professor of Urology, Dr Ahmad Salman Waris, said that 16 dialysis machines are functioning simultaneously which carried dialysis of over 14,000 patients during last year while free of cost medicines worth Rs 12.3 million were also provided to them.
