With a view to overcome the shortage of specialists doctors in DHQ and THQ hospitals and to provide best quality treatment facilities to the people of Punjab, health department has recruited as many as 124 specialist doctors in different specialities in BS-18. These specialists doctors have been posted in different government hospitals.
Secretary Health Punjab said here on Tuesday that the best medical care is being provided to the people in accordance with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab. He said among 124 specialist doctors recruited by the government, there are 5 Chest Specialists, 6 ENT, 8 Ophthalmologists, 11 Orthopaedic Surgeons, 8 Physicians, 14 Radiologists, 21 Paediatricians, 17 Surgeons, 10 Gynaecologists, 8 Pathologists, 10 Anaesthetists, 3 Dermatologists, 2 Urologists and 1 Cardiologist.
He said that by appointing these specialists the performance of government hospitals would further improve. Moreover, Punjab Health Foundation approved 45 cases for extending financial assistance to the tune of Rs 50.7 million during the last month. A spokesman of Punjab Health Foundation said that these interest free loans would be utilised for establishment/up-gradation of clinics/hospitals through purchase of medical equipment and construction of buildings. The extension of healthcare facilities in the private sector would supplement the health cover provided by the government institutions.
