The US Treasury said on Tuesday it blacklisted six individuals and five business entities in Iran and Turkey for providing materials and support to Iran's ballistic missile development efforts. The Treasury said the sanctions target a procurement network that has facilitated more than $7 million in transactions for Aerospace Industries Organisation, which oversees all of Iran's missile industries.
The actions ban US entities from transactions with the designated individuals and firms seek to freeze any assets they may have under US jurisdiction. The sanctions were imposed under a 2005 White House executive order aimed at disrupting proliferators of weapons of mass destruction by denying them access to the international financial system.
Aerospace Industries Organisation was blacklisted by the Treasury in 2005. The Treasury said the supply network targeted in Tuesday's announcement is run by Iranian national Milad Jafari, his father, Mohammad Javad Jafari, and his brother, Mani Jafari. The Treasury also is blocking transactions with two Turkish nationals and three firms based in Istanbul that it said supplying goods and services destined for Aerospace Industries Organisation.
