The PML-Q dissidents in the Punjab Assembly has finally sought separate identity after proving its majority in the Punjab assembly against its parent party. Unification block, a group of 47 dissidents of the PML-Q, moved a requisition in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday seeking appointment of Dr Tahir Ali Javed as Parliamentary leader in the House.
Also, separate benches were requested to the Speaker Punjab Assembly in the same requisition. It may be noted that the PML-Q had 81 members in the Punjab Assembly three years back. But 47 members joined hands under the banner of the Unification block after developing differences with the party leadership when the PML-N chief minister Shahbaz Sharif was disqualified by the court of law leading to a joint effort of the PPP and the PML-Q to form government in Punjab.
All the 47 members of the Unification block signed the requisition and submitted to the Speaker Punjab Assembly. Earlier, some 44 members of Unification block met at the Committee Room of the Punjab assembly and nominated Dr Tahir Ali Javed as Parliamentary leader of the group in the assembly.
Mian Ata Muhammad Manika, the founder of the group said three members of the block could not attend the meeting due to their personal engagements but they have signed the requisition. Later on, both Dr Javed and Ata Manika told the media that the Unification block has not joined any political party. Instead, they said, purpose of this move is to replace the sitting PML-Q Opposition Leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin in the assembly.
Dr Javed said the Unification block would not let any conspiracy be hatched against the chief minister Shahbaz Sharif. Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said decision on the requisition would be taken in accordance with law in next assembly session.
