The government Wednesday submitted original record of prime minister's summary regarding appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, to the Supreme Court. A four-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal with Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa was hearing different petitions against appointment of incumbent chairman.
The court directed Akram Sheikh, counsel for PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to talk to his client for the explanation of consultation process, which he had with the prime minister regarding NAB Chairman appointment. The counsel told the court that his client had supported the consultation, which had been settled, by the court in al-Jihad Trust case judgment. He contended that according to the section 6 of NAB ordinance, the consultation with prime minister and leader of opposition regarding Chairman NAB appointment would be equal.
He said that appointment of Chairman NAB was not an administrative issue but also a judicial matter. He said that the court had already settled in Asfand Yar Wali Khan case that advice of chief justice regarding the appointment of Chairman NAB would be binding. Sheikh said that consultation process regarding appointment of Chairman NAB was not fulfilled. The court asked him to complete his arguments today (Thursday).
