Islamabad Police would make every possible effort for strengthening its corps down to the level of constable, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani here on Wednesday. It is imperative to make them morally and financially strong so that they could perform in an effective manner and play a leading role in ensuring protection to the lives and property of citizens, Durrani said while addressing the `Police Darbar' at Police Line Headquarters.
DIG (Operations) Bani Ameen, DIG (Security) Dr Mujeeb ur Rehman, DIG (Headquarters) Kamal Uddin Tipu, AIG Ahmed Mukraam, AIG Ehsan Sadiq, AIG Ashraf Zuabir Siddiqui, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP Headquarters Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SSP Security Ehsan Abbass, SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Masood, all SDPOs, all Station House Officers of Islamabad Police stations and police officials from various wings were also present on the occasion.
Durrani said he would accord priority to boost confidence of lower cadres of police's officials, especially constable as they always faced the challenging circumstances with courage and uphold law and order. "Their confidence will be boosted and they will be strengthened by providing more facilities", the IGP said, adding that the officers must listen to the problems of low ranked officials' and make efforts to resolve them immediately.
He said sense of responsibility is the basic thing to ensure effective policing and this could only be inculcated through facilitating the police employees. Wajid Ali Durrani expressed firm resolve to make Islamabad police a corruption-free force as well as people friendly institution.
Citing the example of National Highways and Motorway Police, he said this force has been declared corruption-free and its policing techniques are being replicated by other foreign countries. He stressed to raise Islamabad police on the pattern of motorway police, urging the officials to improve performance, which should be the reason to ask the government for resources.
"I feel satisfaction to see zero-corruption at police pickets, but I want to abolish the menace from the police stations," Durrani said. He said that police stations have the key role in justice system and complaints must be listened. For the fist time in the history of Capital policing, he announced to appoint Station House Officers in police stations through selection board.
The selection board will conduct written test and interview of police officials based on their awareness about law, discipline, proficiency in crisis management and also about police rules. The selected candidates will be appointed as SHO on rotation basis. Similarly, Muharras will be also appointed at police stations and traffic office after conducting their proper test.
The IGP said that police officials must take interest into the investigation of cases and ensure justice with the people. He said he would hold such police Darbars also in future on monthly basis to listen to the problems of the cops and to resolve them on priority basis.
In case of mishap with any policemen of Islamabad, DSP Headquarters would be responsible to approach this cop and ensure every possible facilities to him including medical facilitates, financial or other. Later, the IGP mingled with the police officials and listened their problems. He issued immediate orders to resolve their issues and also assured them to further facilitate them. He also assured to take up the matter with high officials regarding ten percent quota for children of policemen during recruitment in police.
