US President Barack Obama said Friday Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should "listen" to protestors calling for him to quit immediately, but did not explicitly call on him to go now. Obama said "some discussions" had begun on the details of a political transition in Egypt, and warned unequivocally that violence against protestors was unacceptable.
Obama said following reports that the United States was working on plans to prod Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak out of power amid a mass uprising, that the details of the political transition would be worked out by Egyptians. He said that it was his understanding that "some discussions" had begun on such arrangements and issued another warning that against attacks on journalists, protestors and human rights activists.
