Ministry of Interior has indicated readiness to take political parties on board on the ongoing court case against Raymond Davis for shooting two motorcyclists to death in Lahore, in the event if any request is received. A high level official of Ministry of Interior disclosed that the Ministry is ready to give a briefing to the opposition parties in parliament in-camera if they receive any request.
He further disclosed that it was inappropriate to make the findings of the ongoing inquiry public as it may further provoke the masses. The official, well aware of the progress in the case, said that the investigation team of Punjab Police has presented its preliminary report to the Punjab government and federal government stating that Raymond Davis was not on a diplomatic assignment nor did he fire in self-defence.
The team consisting of CCPO Lahore, Aslam Khan Tareen, SP Investigation, Zulfiqar Hameed and SP Civil Line Lahore, Liaqat Ali recorded statements of over 20 eye-witnesses who were present in the busy Mozang Chungi at the time of the shooting incident, he said.
It has been learnt that the investigation team mentioned in the report that Davis is not a diplomat and any diplomatic immunity is out of the question. Furthermore, the report also stated that the US Consulate had not informed the law enforcement agencies about Davis' planned movements, which means he was not a consulate staff member. The official stated that the investigation team has also mentioned in the report that the US consulate is not co-operating with the investigation team and they have not provided with any information. However, the Ministry of Interior did not officially confirm the statements made by the official and remained tight-lipped on the issue.
