Various political and religious parties on Saturday organised rallies to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, vowing to continue their political and moral support for Kashmiris in their just struggle for right of self-determination. Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Jamaat-u-Dawa, Jamaat-i-Islami (Kashmir), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Pakistan Muslim League, and Kashmir-based parties celebrated February 5 as Kashmir Solidarity Day.
The participants of the rallies carried banners and placards inscribed with demands to the United Nations to make the Indian government comply with its resolutions on Kashmir.
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah in his message on Kashmir Day vowed to continue the PPP's political support to Kashmiris. He said the whole nation would celebrate the February 5 as an important day to highlight the just cause of Kashmiris, besides showing support to them. He said Pakistani nation would not leave them alone in the hour of their struggle for independence. Qaim said Kashmiris struggle had a legacy of 64 years and would soon pave the way for their independence.
JI termed the Kashmir issue an "incomplete" agenda of independence of Sub Continent, saying "the valley is the integral part of Pakistan." Speakers slammed the government and army dictators for putting the Kashmir cause on back burner. Kashmiris have proved through their struggle that they were against Indian occupation, they added.
Addressing the rally, JI Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said Kashmiris were sharing cultural, traditional, political thoughts, religious relations and commonalties with Pakistanis. "The day is not far when Kashmir will get independence from India and become part of Pakistan," Mehanti added.
He told the large number of participants that after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah every head of the state tried to strengthen relations with India which badly damaged the Kashmir cause. JI Karachi Chief urged the international community to seek a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue without further delay as per the Kashmiris' aspirations.
He said Kashmiris had been subjected to suppression, cruelty and denial of freedom of speech by Indian governments from the first day, but failed to quell their struggle. Mehanti also declared his party's support to anti-government protestors of Tunisia and Egypt, saying people in the Arab world started getting rid of the US puppets. "Today's rally also announces its support to Egyptian people with a message to Hussni Mubbark to quit power," he said.
