Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Friday warned the government that legal fraternity would take to the streets throughout the country if it failed to recover kidnapped judges and lawyers in Balochistan. Abdul Lateef Afridi, vice chairman PBC, strongly condemned the abduction of Jan Muhammad Gohar Yasinzai, district and session judge and Muhammad Ali Khokhar, civil judge, Sibi and four lawyers - Munir Ahmad Mirwani, Agha Zahir Shah, Saleem Akhtar and Muhammad Tahir.
In a statement issued here, he severely criticised the law enforcement agencies in Balochistan for their utter failure to recover the kidnapped judges and lawyers, despite lapse of seven days. He asked both federal and provincial governments to immediately recover the judges and lawyers, who had been kidnapped in Balochistan or the legal fraternity would be forced to give nation-wide strike call for the recovery of their colleagues.
Afridi expressed grave concern over the increasing incidents of kidnapping especially members of the bar and judiciary and worsening law and order situation in the province, which reflects the inefficacy of the law enforcement agencies. "It is the basic and foremost duty of the government to provide safety and security to the people but it is a matter of concern and dismay that no serious effort and practical steps have been made for the restoring the normal law and order situation, where the people could feel safe, secure and protected," he added.
