The incidents of street crime, car snatching, highway robberies, bootlegging and drug pushing shown upward trend during the week, wherein people were deprived of their valuables worth millions in the federal capital. Capital Police have claimed to have busted 15 gangs of criminals involved in theft, drug pushing, dacoities, prostitution and gambling and arrested over 120 accused for their alleged involvement in various crimes.
But it has failed in curtailing the crime rate, particularly, the highway robberies, which shown upward trend, as over 75 incidents of street crimes were reported in the week. The data available to this scribe, 120 outlaws including 12 women were arrested this week along with over 150 suspects who have failed to prove their identity.
The data revealed that people were deprived of ten vehicles including three Suzuki Mehran cars, a Suzuki Margalla car, two Toyota Corolla cars, a pick up and a Honda civic car, besides depriving of five motorcycles during the week. As per data, people were deprived of valuables including gold ornaments, computers, electronic appliances, mobile phones and cash by thieves and robbers.
The Police have raided three gambling dens in different areas in which 25 gamblers were nabbed from whom over Rs 300,000 bet money and other commodities like watches, mobile phones etc were recovered. Police have also busted gangs of prostitution, particularly the groups, which were involved in attracting people on highways.
Capital Police in its drive recovered huge quantity of illegal arms including a rifle, four-rifle (12-bore), one 7mm gun, 24-pistol, three-dragger and over 1100-bullet of different caliber. Police recovered drugs and liquor including 21-kg charas, 1.8-kg heroin, 850 bottles of liquor and 1.7 kg opium.
