The Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has decided to increase the number of seed packets being sold under promotion of 'kitchen gardening' project from 20,000 packets to 100,000 packets. These packets of quality seeds of nine different vegetables are being sold at a rate of Rs 50 per packet to the consumers for sowing on five marla plot, under the directives of the Chief Minister Punjab to promote kitchen gardening in the province.
A spokesman of the department said that promotion of kitchen gardening would enable the domestic growers to be self-reliant in vegetables. Kitchen gardening enable the masses to have access to fresh, quality, disease free and cheaper vegetables. The spokesman said that residents of Lahore districts may approach District Officer (Agriculture Extension) or Deputy District Officer for the seeds and the technical guidance while residents of other districts should approach their respect district agriculture officer.
