KESC demands early closure of public parks, grounds: 50 megawatts saved from wedding halls in 2010

The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) while appreciating the encouraging results of the early closure of marriage halls to save electricity has demanded a similar practice at all parks and grounds as well.
The KESC noted with satisfaction that during the year 2010, the closure of marriage halls by midnight, 12:00 am, approximately 50 megawatts of electricity were saved on daily basis, which could be utilised at more important public concerns particularly hospitals, clinics and emergency centres, which work round the clock.
All along this period, the KESC teams frequently surveyed wedding halls and found out that overwhelming majority of these concerns had been following the decision of closing all businesses by midnight. The KESC understands that a more effective implementation of the decision by the City Government, Police Department and other law enforcing agencies could double the electricity quantum saved at marriage halls this year.
The KESC also believes that more electricity could be saved to facilitate emergency needs of the citizens throughout the Metropolis by closing all public parks and grounds under the control of City Government as well as those run by the Cantonment Boards. The power thus saved could be diverted to the emergency needs of the general public.-PR
