Islamabad Traffic Police has issued tickets to 88,171 vehicles for violation of traffic rules during the last two months and recovered over rupees23.35 million from them. Showing perseverance to the basic objective of ensuring safe road environment, the ITP has been successful in maintaining an exemplary traffic system in the capital, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, Dr Moeen Masood, here on Friday.
Elaborating, Dr Moeen said that out of the total 88,171 tickets issued during the last two months, 6,318 tickets were issued for careless driving, 966 public transport vehicles for boarding passengers in dangerous position, 1,205 vehicles for having defective lights, 1,230 for driving on the wrong side, and 1,667 vehicles were fined for being driven without registration number plates. He also said that ITP issued 1,099 tickets to vehicles being driven without driving licenses, 2,446 tickets for not giving way to other vehicles, 2,823 tickets over lane violation while 290 van drivers were fined for misbehaving with passengers.
He further said that 2,739 tickets were issued for wrong parking, 3,842 for creating hurdles in traffic, 1,871 tickets for overloading, 1,358 for over-speeding, 2,450 tickets for wrong parking at bus stops, 937 for parking vehicles on zebra crossing and 533 tickets for using pressure horns. ITP fined 3,331 vehicles for violating routes, 1,083 public service vehicles for driving vans or without route permit, 6,978 drivers for signal violation, 192 for smoke emission while 856 vehicles were fined for using coloured glasses.
The SSP said that 3,586 drivers were issued tickets for taking wrong turn while 93 amateur drivers were also issued tickets. He said that 11,169 drivers were fined for not using seat belts, 6,966 drivers for using mobile phone during driving and 1,654 vehicles fined for unnecessarily using high beam lights.
