Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is facing the worst form of terrorism and is fighting for its survival. The need for unity, harmony and brotherhood is now more than ever. It is the time to evolve a collective strategy with mutual consultation for the elimination of terrorism rather than indulging in point scoring and it is ironic that his proposal in this regard is also being criticised by those who supported the dictator for eight long years.
He was talking to Punjab Assembly Members from various districts, here on Friday. The elected representatives informed the Chief Minister of the pace of implementation of ongoing development schemes and the problems of their respective areas.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the provision of basic amenities to the masses and bringing the deprived segments of the society into the national mainstream. He said that revolutionary measures have been taken for the uplift of education, health, infrastructure and social sectors. Mega projects are being executed expeditiously in far-flung and backward areas for removing the sense of deprivation of the people of these areas.
He said to provide quality education to the poorest students of backward areas, the project of Daanish Schools is being implemented speedily. He said that academic activities have started in Daanish Schools of Rahim Yar Khan, Hasilpur and Chishtian while four more Daanish Schools are being set up in this year.
He said establishment of Daanish Schools will not only promote education in backward areas but will also open up new avenue of progress. Special attention has also been paid to the provision of modern health facilities to the people. He said mobile health units equipped with latest medical facilities have started operating in flood-affected areas for providing healthcare to the people.
He said 50 more mobile health units are being imported which will be sent to all tehsils of the province. Solid measures have been taken for the promotion of medical education and four new medical colleges are being set up in the province. He said Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive programme for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people and besides revival of the damaged infrastructure in the calamity-hit areas, model villages equipped with all basic amenities are also being constructed for the flood victims. He said these model villages will be completed within next three months and handed over to devastated people.
He said Pakistan was achieved after numerous sacrifices and collective efforts will have to be made for transforming the country into Islamic welfare state in the real sense. He said that the aim of national progress and prosperity can only be achieved through honesty and hard work.
The government officers should play their due role for timely completion of development projects and pay field visits regularly for the solution of peoples' problems instead of sitting in their offices. He said that assembly members should maintain a close contact with the people and spare no effort for resolving their problems. Those who met the Chief Minister included Syed Raza Gilani, Saqlain Anwar Sipra, Mir Badshah Qaisrani, Ghulam Shabbir and Chaudhry Irfan Bashir Gujar.
