Israeli aircraft fired rockets at a Hamas training ground in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing two militants from the group, Palestinian officials said. The attack hit the facility east of Gaza City, killing two people and wounding two others, emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya said.
In a statement sent to AFP, the group named the two dead men as Ghassan Abu Am, 27, and Adnan Shtewih, 25, both members of the Ezzedine al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas. The attack targeted the Abu Jaarad training camp in the Zeitun district which was used by the Hamas security forces, witnesses said.
Israel's military confirmed the air raid, saying it had targeted "an active centre of terrorism" in the wake of a morning rocket attack on southern Israel, which caused no casualties or damage. After the air strike a mortar round was fired into Israel, without causing damage or casualties, the army said. The military says Gaza-based militants have fired more than 60 projectiles into Israel since the beginning of the year.
