Secretary Local Government and Community Development Punjab, Khizar Hayat Gondal has said digital mapping of all districts of Punjab would be carried out to strengthen the infrastructure of urban and rural areas, besides identifying the residential and commercial areas of the districts.
Presiding over a meeting at DCO office committee room in which the matters related to operational water purification plants, building control bylaws, cleanliness arrangements and other municipal affairs were reviewed, Gondal directed the concerned officers to devise action plan in collaboration with urban development unit to complete the task of digital mapping of the districts.
Eulogising the DCO's efforts for urban development and beautification of the city, he said that the current initiatives taken by the city district government under the dynamic administration of DCO Naseem Sadiq for the relief of the public and giving the city remarkable beautiful look were being appreciated. He directed the officers of concerned agencies to deliver their departmental services in a co-ordinated manner so that the development schemes could be completed rapidly.
He said that enforcement of building rules should be ensured and the housing colonies should be brought into the circle of the concerned rules and regulations for organised development of the city. He directed the existing water filtration plants in the district should be reactivated for the relief of the masses.
He advised the PHA officers to propose a project for beautification of the city, which would be considered for provision of funds. The secretary local government said that the uplift schemes of chief minister's package should be given priority for timely completion of the proposed schemes so that people of the area could get benefits of these welfare schemes without delay.
Secretary Housing, Suhail Aamir directed the WASA officers to carry out campaign for the desilting of the sewerage lines with the co-operation of the TMAs and ongoing WASA schemes should be completed without delay. In case of any technical or administrative obstacles found in completion of sewerage schemes should immediately be brought to the notice of the DCO and joint efforts should be made for its removal, he maintained.
He said that on spot inspections should be carried out for quality and transparent construction work and proactive approach should be adopted for complaint free departmental services. During the meeting DCO Naseem Sadiq briefed the chair about the steps taken by the city district government for the beautification of the city and traffic management, he informed that new machinery were being purchased for mechanical sweeping and RDF plant was also being established out of the city for the scientific disposal of solid waste for which an agreement was signed with a private firm for collecting and disposal of solid waste.
Highlighting the developmental activities under the chief minister's package, Punjab development programme and district annual development programme, he said that a number of uplift schemes were being completed for the provision of facilities of the roads, drainage, upgradation of schools and other civic amenities.
He informed that city green belts were also being developed besides improvement of the parks and establishment of slip roads in the city. He also informed the other measures including shifting of Bakkra Mandi, remodelling of general bus stand, establishment of public toilets and removal of unauthorised transport stands from the city. Officers of FDA, WASA, PHA also gave briefing regarding performance of their departments. Secretary Housing Punjab, Suhail Aamir, DCO Naseem Sadiq, DG FDA, Rashid Majeed, MD PHA Misbahul Hassan Dar, EDOs, Dos, Administrators, TMAs, TMOs and other officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
