15 fall prey to targeted killings: MQM accuses Mirza of patronising terrorists

The unabated targeted killings continue to haunt the city, as 15 people were killed during last 24 hours in different areas of the metropolis. According to police and rescue services, Shahid Hussain, 35, was gunned down in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Sunday while a four-day old bullet riddled body was also found from the same area.
In another incident, two Afghan labourers were shot dead while five others received bullet injuries when unidentified motorcyclist opened indiscriminate fire on an ice depot near Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. In Kharadar area M. Asghar and Wiki in their 20s were gunned down while in Baldia area Rashid Hussain was shot dead. Rescue services further said that two persons who remained unidentified were killed in Golimar area.
Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants set on fire public transport vehicles in Kharadar, Burns Road Area and North Nazimabad area after the incidents of killings.
The police and personnel of rangers have been put on high alert to prevent such incidents, police sources said. Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of killings of MQM workers in Karachi.
The MQM accused Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza of patronising the terrorists, gangsters and extortionists in the city, a private TV channel reported.
Addressing a press conference at MQM headquarter 90, MQM's Parliamentary Leader in National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar demanded of the government to protect MQM activists from gangsters. He said that during last three day, an MQM activist and three sympathisers had been killed. He warned the government and 'terrorists' not to misconceive MQM's patience as its weakness.
He said that MQM offices were attacked by miscreants in the city. He demanded Chief Minister, Governor and other high up to take notice of the killing of MQM workers.
APP adds: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken strict notice of the killing of innocent people in Karachi. A statement issued here said that the CM sought an immediate report from the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Karachi.
The Chief Minister also directed the IGP Sindh and Director General of Rangers to take immediate and strict steps for the protection of the lives and property of the people. He further instructed that patrolling by the police and Rangers be enhanced and the number of personnel be also increased.
Meanwhile, A meeting of the Ministerial Committee comprising of the Ministers of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was held here on Sunday at the Chief Minister House.
An official statement said that the meeting was attended by the PPP Provincial Minister, Agha Siraj Durrani, whereas from the MQM side the provincial ministers Raza Haroon and Dr Sagheer Ahmed attended the meeting.
It said that the meeting discussed the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi. The meeting also devised various suggestions regarding the law and order in the province of Sindh especially in the city of Karachi. These would be forwarded to the Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the statement added.
Meanwhile Sindh Chief Minister telephoned Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, and Deputy Convenor Rabita Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Dr Farooq Sattar, and discussed with them the situation in Karachi.
A CM House statement here on Sunday night said that the Chief Minister made it clear that those responsible for harming peace in Karachi, would not be spared. He further stated that strict measures would be taken for the maintenance of law and order in the metropolis.
