Partly Facetious: The President is no albatross

"The President's speech began with a non-issue."
Published March 26, 2011

"The President's speech began with a non-issue."
"Well, someone in the Presidency thought he would bowl a sixer if he began his speech to the joint session of parliament by denouncing the anti-Islamic statements of a Florida pastor who was denied a UK visa - the correct way to deal with such non-entities; and if one adds the President's obsession with the United Nations, he asked the body to take note of this matter, (like he insisted at great cost to the country with respect to holding an inquiry into the assassination of his wife and then refused to accept the report) the start of the speech is inexplicable ... I mean where does the UN come in? It's a matter for the US government namely to prosecute the pastor for incitement or not..."
"Well, they aren't that bright or, with it, in the Presidency."
"You are willing to let it go if I don't mention the President in particular but my friend he must have agreed to the speech at some point..."
"Correct, and lets be honest our President is perhaps one of the few world leaders who remains enamoured of the UN. I propose that after the end of term of Ban Ki-moon, President Asif Ali Zardari be proposed as its head."
"He will accept if he can retain the PPP co-chairmanship."
"Don't be facetious."
"Anyway, there are certain qualifications, academic as well as character wise for the post of the UN head..."
"You are just too much! I mean what must the President do before you can forgive him for past indiscretions which, incidentally, are all based on political victimisation?"
"Hey good works can change the public perception."
"I don't think so the President is being maligned..."
"He continues to be maligned because he has done nothing for the public."
"The economy is in shambles because of the former government..."
"And the economy remains in shambles three years down the line."
"OK, but the fact is that the latest Finance Minister is an International Monetary Fund (IMF) proposed candidate."
"And need I point out to you that the IMF programme remains stalled nonetheless."
"So what should the President do?"
"Fire him and get a heavy weight. And going back to what you said about the public not forgiving him for past alleged indiscretions let me restate that he can get rid himself of his ill reputation."
"I don't think so, people have already..."
"Look at the Pakistan cricket team. From being a maligned team domestically as well as internationally it has re-emerged from the ashes of disrepute."
"Right, it has emerged as the albatross."
"How dare you compare a bird with the President!"
"You are right, the President is no albatross."
