Parliamentary Secretary of Industry & Commerce, Rana Tajamal revealed that there were 23 Consumer Protection Councils in Punjab and 13 more were being established. He was speaking at Punjab Assembly's 23rd session, here on Tuesday.
He said that 11 consumer protection courts were established in 2006 in Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Sahiwal, D. G. Khan, Bhawalpur, Multan Sargodha while 11 were established in 2008/09 in Muzafargargh, Bhakkar, Vehari, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Attock, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Rahimyar Khan, Bhawalnagar.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that under Consumer Protection Act 2005, 11 courts were established in the province. Regarding decisions of Consumer Protection Courts, Parliamentary Secretary said that from March 2007 to 31 December 2008 a total number of 1,770 cases were dealt, while 1,107 cases remained pending in these courts, he pointed. Tajamal dilating about strength of industries and factories in Sialkot stated that their number was 2,670 as per record of department of industries.
He said that there were about eight technical institutions in Sialkot. Giving details of Sasti Roti Scheme, he said the provincial government had spent Rs 9,848 million on provision of flour for Sasti Roti Scheme in financial years 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 (till 27-9-2010).
Tajamal answering query about existence of technical institutions in Kasur said that Government Technical Training Institute Kasur, Government Technical Training Center (Boys) were working under TEVTA in the area. The Parliamentary Secretary responding to another question said that Industrial Estate (City) M3 Faisalabad was established on 3662 acres in October 2007, he said. In Punjab Assembly a number of resolutions particularly one by Chaudhry Zaheer-u-Din regarding SCARP project could not be entertained due to paucity of time. The house was adjourned for Wednesday 10am (today) later by the chair.
