Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has approved a comprehensive plan to improve working of the Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) across the province, saying the TMA showing efficiency would be encouraged. He said this while chairing a high level meeting on the TMAs related matters here at Frontier House.
Hoti said local government institutions played key role in providing improved civic facilities like streets lights, clean drinking water, and abolition of encroachment, adding, the TMA should also concentrate on efforts improving their revenue sources. However, he promised to financially encourage the TMA affected by the floods and terrorism.
The meeting agreed to spend the development budget of the TMA on the schemes, which are prioritised from the next fiscal year by the concerned department. Moreover the district development schedule would also be implemented on TMA's development programme.The meeting also impressed upon the officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) to improve recovery pace of their revenue sources. The meeting decided to give matching grant to the TMA showing improvement in its resources.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officials to suggest workable solutions to the problems relating to TMA's properties, utility bills in one-month time. The meeting conditionally agreed to shift the resources to the weak TMA from the Provincial Finance Commission however, the same would not be utilised on the salaries of the TMA employees.
The Chief Minister said the proposed amendment in Local Government Ordinance 2001 would be finalised by the end of current fiscal year. It agreed to give Rs 10 million grant to the newly set-up of Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs). The meeting also agreed to set up Endowment Fund for the TMA bearing additional development expenses due to uplift projects.
