Speakers here at the 12th biennial convention of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (Pima) urged health experts to be familiar with the latest tends in medical science to give comfort to the ailing humanity by soothing their miseries in a professional manner. The two-day convention was held in Peshawar Medical College, here on Saturday.
Dr Abdul Malik, President Pima Khyber Pakhtunkhwa highlighted aims and objectives of the convention. He said that the sole aim of holding the convention is to refresh the professional and ethical know-how of health experts. Referring to the prevailing situation in the country, he said that being the most sensitive community, it is imperative for doctors to meet current challenges successfully. "The sole aim of holding the convention was to emphasise on the custodians of this noble profession of their foremost responsibilities" he explained.
Expressing his views, Dr Fazl-e-Azeem while explaining teachings of the Holy Qur'an, asked the participants to abide by the golden principles of the Holy Book. "Knowledge without character leads to devastation," he asserted. Professor Hafiz Ijaz Ahmad, while speaking on "importance of self accountability" said that as health experts they are dealing with precious human lives, therefore, it is essential for doctors to be aware of the latest treatment methods to handle their task effectively. "They must know the efficacy of the medicine and/or outcomes of the surgical procedure for the most beneficial use", he pinpointed.
He advised doctors to know about their limitations clearly and always take guidance from the experiences of the contemporary experts of the field. "Doctors should exhibit empathy with patients, keeping in mind the social and economic problems and avoid mal-practices, present in the medical field," he mentioned.
In his address, Professor Habib-ur-Rahman Asim of Islamic University Islamabad, while throwing light on Zikr-e-Illahi (remembrance of God) in daily life, told the participants that striving for getting excellence in the profession for the betterment of mankind to get pleasure of Allah is the essence of Zikr. Maulana Mohammad Ismail, also, enlightened that the central theme of both Qur'an and medical science is welfare of human beings. He asked health experts for discharging their duties with the sense of service to maintain dignity of their noble profession.
