Hard red winter wheat basis bids were steady to firmer on Friday in a continued quiet market that saw lacklustre farmer selling. Basis was a dime a bushel firmer in Hutchinson, Kansas, and a penny firmer in Salina, Kansas, but unchanged in several other US Plains locations.
Protein premiums on railcar hard red winter wheat to and through Kansas City rose 4 cents a bushel for 11.20 and 11.40 percent protein wheat supplies and rose 5 cents a bushel for 13.00- through 13.40-pro levels. Kansas City Board of Trade HRW wheat futures rallied on Thursday, ending with the May up 46 cents at $9.08. Light rain late this week in portions of the US Plains hard red winter wheat region provided only minimal relief from the prolonged dryness that has been stressing the crop. Much more rain is needed to boost crop prospects.
