Two senior police officers Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad, who were detained in Benazir Bhutto assassination case, have been released fromm Central Jail Adiala on bail The counsel of two police officers submitted surety bonds and passports of the detained officers before Judge of Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) No-III, Rana Nisar Ahmed on Thursday in Adiala Jail.
After receiving the surety bonds and passports of Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad, the ATC released them on bail. The two were granted bail by Lahore High Court on Tuesday (April 5). A 2-member bench of LHC presided over by Chief Justice Ejaz Chaudhry granted bail to them after hearing the arguments of the counsel of the two detained officers. The court asked the two officers to submit surety bonds of Rs 10,00,000 (one million rupees) each and deposit their passports in the court.
Malik Ishrat Mehmood and Mir Zaman submitted the surety bonds of former CPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and Sheeraz Javed and Zameer Akhtar submitted the surety bonds of former SP Khurram Shahzad along with affidavits. After receiving the surety bonds, passports and affidavits of four people the ATC issued the release orders of the two detained police officers and then they were released from the prison.
Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad had filed their bail pleas with LHC two weeks earlier after the ATC denied bail to them. The two high ranked police officers former City Police Officer Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and former Superintendent of Police Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad were arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Benazir Bhutto assassination on December 22 last year.
The FIA's prosecution submitted a provisional interim challan of the Benazir Bhutto assassination case in which they held the two police officers responsible for washing the crime scene after former premier and chairperson of PPP was assassinated along with 26 other persons in firing-bomb attack on December 27, 2007.
