The wheat procurement at the official wheat procurement centres in Gujranwala Division's all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts would be started from April 20, 2011, as all the necessary arrangements have been made for this purpose while, the supply of the gunny bags would be started to the wheat growers on April 18, 2011 two days before the procurement.
Commissioner Gujranwala Division Saeed Wahla disclosed this while talking to the newsmen here. Sialkot DCO Mujahid Sher Dil and Deputy Director Food Gujranwala Division Chaudhry Naveed Ashraf were also present on this occasion.
Commissioner added that as many as 400,000 metric tons of wheat would be purchased at the official wheat procurement centres direct from the wheat growers and farmers at the supporting price of Rs 950 per mound (40 KGs), through curbing the menace of the dealers and middlemen.
He said that special supervisory committees have also been established to monitor gunny bags stock, distribution and wheat procurement at local level.
All the processes would be monitored, however, the DCOs would make all out extra needed measures for ensuring the easy access of the wheat grows and the wheat yield from the fields to the official wheat procurement centres.
He said that the number of the official wheat procurement centres would be increased if needed to facilitate the maximum wheat growers and farmers. He said that as many as 72000 metric tons of wheat would be procured in Sialkot district, 193,000 metric tons wheat in Gujranwala district, 36,000 metric tons wheat in Narowal district, 25,000 metric tons of wheat in Gujrat district and 53,000 metric tons of wheat would be purchased direct from the wheat growers at the official wheat procurement centres, as the implementation has also been started on Storage Plan in the above mentioned district.
