A new high tech concept in restaurant ordering is being tried out in Frankfurt and aims at taking Germany by storm. At the Holyfields restaurant patrons order their food on a touchscreen. Then they hold a device known as a PUK, which looks like a television remote control, against the monitor and the order is registered. The device vibrates when the order is finished.
Guests pick up their food themselves from the kitchen counter. Before leaving the restaurant, they turn in their PUK to the cashier and pay their bill. The restaurant plans to expand this year to Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg and Leipzig. Ultimately, its owners want to create a chain with outlets in other European countries.
