Strong demand for dollar pushed the rupee lower on the currency market on Tuesday in process of trading, money experts said. The rupee failed to keep its firmness versus dollar, losing 28 paisa for buying at 84.52 and 30 paisa for selling at 84.58, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the second Asian trade yen edged higher in Asia as more market players cut back on carry trades, but the move will likely be short-lived as hedge funds and Japanese life insurers positioned for the yen to resume its slide before long. Risky assets were hit by a double-whammy on Monday after fears mounted that Greece will have to restructure its mountain of debt, possibly as early as this summer, and Standard & Poor's threatened to cut the United States' prized AAA credit rating. The drop in Wall Street shares spilled across Asia, with Japan's Nikkei average and Hong Kong's Hang Seng both shedding about 1 percent as investors booked profits and closed positions heading into the Easter holidays later this week.
Indian rupee was at Rs 44.45 against the US currency, Malaysian ringgit was available at 3.0300 in terms of the greenback and Chinese yuan was trading at 6.5323 versus dollar.
Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Tuesday :.72.78/72.86 (previous 72.79/72.88). Call Money Rates: 6.00-12.00 percent (previous 6.00-12.00 percent).
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed five paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 84.45 and 84.60, they added. The rupee extended its rise versus euro, gaining 38 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 120.05 and Rs 120.55, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee lost 20 paisa on buying side and 10 paisa on selling side against dollar at Lahore currency market on Tuesday. According to dealers, the dollar closed at Rs 84.40 and Rs 84.60 on buying and selling counters against overnight Rs 84.20 and Rs 84.50, respectively. However, British pound was traded at its Monday's closing rates of Rs 137.00 and Rs 137.50 on buying and selling sides, respectively, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained unchanged against rupee at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.10 (buying) and Rs 85.45 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.10 (buying) and Rs 85.45 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 136.35 (buying) and Rs 137.55 (selling) against same previous rates. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.35 (buying) and Rs 137.55 (selling).
