Islamabad Police have been made people-friendly through active interaction between police and community and every possible step is being taken for promoting its relations with the public to ensure effective policing, said SSP (Traffic) Mir Vaiz Niaz, here on Thursday
The soft image of Islamabad Police has bridged gap between law enforcers and common people, Niaz said while addressing the participants of five-day workshop arranged by GTZ under the theme `Relationship between Media and Police' during their visit to Islamabad Traffic Police Headquarters.
A total of 11 police officers of DSP as well as Inspector rank and officials from FBR attended the workshop and their visits were managed by various media organisations with the purpose of boosting relationship of policemen with media persons. Cops from Islamabad police, Punjab police, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Custom officers visited the Media and Public Relation Centre (MPRC), established exclusively by Islamabad Police.
In his briefing to the participants, SSP (Traffic) said that Islamabad Police is the pioneer force in the country, which established such centre to enhance relations with public and giving them access to judge the performance of the force. He said that Capital Police would be made professional force as well as role model for other law enforcement agencies and equipped with modern technology. "12 television channels are monitored and news regarding police and security are noted for further action", he added.
He informed that capacity-building programmes have been initiated for the officers at MPRC to improve their professional skills of maintaining liaison with the public. There is always a room for improvement, Niaz said adding that purpose of establishing MPRC is to get public opinion and inculcate reforms in the policing sector. Participants of the workshop said that they have learnt a lot through this workshop and consider media as a very important tool for opinion making.
