Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday asked the international community to urge India to respect the fundamental rights of Kashmiris and said the atrocities against innocent Kashmiris should be stopped forthwith. Talking to Ambassador Abdullah Abdurahman Alim, Organisation of Islamic Conference's (OIC) Secretary General's Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir who called on him at the PM House.
Gilani appreciating the OIC's strong and consistent support to the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination, stated that Pakistan looks forward to special envoy of OIC's Secretary General's Report to be submitted to the organisation after his current visit to AJK and Pakistan.
The prime minister underlined Pakistan's strong belief that any solution to settle Kashmir dispute must be acceptable to all the parties in Pakistan, India and the Kashmiri people. Gilani apprised the special envoy of his recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh in Mohali and expressed his satisfaction on resumption of a full spectrum of dialogue on all issues including the Jammu and Kashmir.
He hoped that the renewed process of dialogue would be uninterrupted and it would be constructive for the resolution of contentious issues like Jammu and Kashmir dispute which is imperative for the long-term peace, stability and progress of South Asia.
The special envoy while thanking the Prime Minister for sparing time to meet him and his delegation and for the warm hospitality accorded to him during the visit, assured the Prime Minister of the OIC's complete solidarity with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
He referred to the various resolutions passed in the OIC and Contact Group of OIC on Kashmir with consensus for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. These resolutions, he stated, are in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people to be determined through the mechanism suggested in the UN Security Council's resolutions.
He informed the Prime Minister that he wishes to meet all the segments of Kashmiri and Pakistani society including the Kashmiris in Indian held Kashmir, if possible, to reflect the realities on ground in his report to the OIC. He thanked the Prime Minister for his government's full support in facilitating his visit and hoped that with the resumption of Pakistan-India dialogue and warming up of their bilateral relations, it would become possible for him to visit Indian held Kashmir in the future. The senior officers of concerned ministries were also present in the meeting.
