Lahore High Court here Friday allowed bail to four accused involved in 20-kanal land scam of National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL). The accused included Athar Ali Naqvi, Muhammad Zahoor Ahmad, Zahid Hussain and Naveed Ahsan.
The court, after hearing counsel for FIA and accused persons observed that the accused were not the members of board of directors and had no role in making decisions regarding sale or purchase of the land. Accused Athar, Zahoor and Zahid had already been granted bail in another case regarding 803-kanal land of NICL.
According to the prosecution accused Habibullah Warraich his son Mohsin Warraich, Muhammad Maalick, manager of a company owned by MPA Chaudhry Moonis Elahi were accused of misappropriating NICL funds on account of land purchase. Warraich alone had been charged for corruption worth rupees 1.68 billion. Mohsin and Moonis had escaped abroad after Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) started investigation against them. Later, Moonis Elahi returned to country and surrendered to FIA.
