Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) was a blunder of history, that is why the PPP government has filed a reference in the court to correct the history.
Addressing the public meeting after the inauguration of sub-campus of the Agriculture University, development package and development projects worth Rs170 million here, he said that the person who gave the Constitution to the country and self-respect to the people, could not be a murderer.
He said certain people who talk about weakening of PPP, should know that PPP had not weakened rather it has further strengthened.
He said Pakistan People's Party had been pledging to safeguard the Constitution. Those who were blaming PPP for not respecting the national institutions should know that the Constitutions of 1973 was given by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he added.
The incumbent government restored the Constitution in its original form, in line with mission of people's leader and BB Shaheed due to which the institutions had strengthened in the country, he added. The Prime Minister said that PPP was the name of an ideology, spirit and mission and this mission was of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto could have made a deal with dictator, but he preferred to sacrifice his life rather than bowing before the dictator, he added. The PM said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed faced the dictator bravely and fought for the rights of people, adding that she was even barred from coming home and hence she was martyred in reprisal for the protection of people's rights.
Prime Minister Gilani said that PPP was the largest political party in the country which had its roots in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan including the four provinces.
"It is PPP's mission to safeguard the Constitution along with protection of the country," he added.
He said the PPP strengthened all institutions including Parliament, Senate and Public Accounts Committee besides giving respect and prestige to the court.
The passage of 18th and 19th Amendments, NFC Award, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), status of province to Gilgit-Baltistan, 'Aghaz-e-Huqooq Baluchistan Package' were the landmark achievements of the present government, he added.
Gilani said the incumbent government had taken steps for the protection of women's rights and minorities and for the first time, the representation from minorities would be in Senate.
He said the PPP after coming into power adopted various measures for the promotion of agriculture sector due to which the farmer became prosperous adding that now Pakistan is in a position to export wheat. Despite the menace of terrorism, the development work was in progress at a pace, he added.
"We have to stand united against anti-state elements and it will be our greatest success that the nation should unite against terrorism and extremism," he said.
He said that no country could win war without the support of people. The government would not take rest until and unless the terrorism is eliminated, he added.
The prime minister said that Pakistan Army saved the future of people of the country by sacrificing their lives, for which they deserved homage.
"We have gone to the Supreme Court and sought opinion from the court, whether the decision of execution of ZAB was correct or wrong, but we think the martyrdom of ZAB was a murder," he added.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, former state minister Syed Sumsam Bukhari, MNA Khurram Jehangir Wattoo and MPA Robina Shaheen Wattoo also spoke on the occasion.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, former federal minister Aseff Ahmed Ali, former provincial minister Ashraf Sohna, PPP leaders and a large number of party workers were also present.
Later, Prime Minister Gilani announced Rs2 million each to 55 union councils of NA-146 and 147 and Rs30 million each for 5 towns of district Okara.
The PM said that funds would be released for improvement of drainage system of Depalpur, construction/renovation of roads in the next budget.
The PM also announced to make dual carriageway of Benazir Avenue road and Rs1 million each for Depalpur Press Club and Bar association.
He said that the matter to link Sulemanki road with Dehli like Wahga border would be reviewed. He also assured to resolve the problems facing the people of the areas.
