Provincial Minister for Labour, Haji Ehsaanuddin Qureshi has said that the persons and institutions who dedicate their lives and resources for provision of education and healthcare facilities to the resource-less persons are the asset of the society.
He called upon the philanthropists to utilise some amount of their earning on welfare oriented activities. He said that private schools are playing a pivotal role for provision of quality education and government highly appreciates their services for enhancement of literacy rate and considers them an active partner in the struggle of promotion of education in country.
Talking to a delegation of private schools, Qureshi said provision of education is a constitutional obligation of the government, but government cannot do this duty single-handedly, and requires support of the private sector in this regard. It is encouraging that private schools are providing education of international standard and presence of quality school is a healthy sign for the education system of the country.
He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund has been set up for providing scholarships to poor but talented students to enable them continue their studies. The minister said that a revolution has been launched through setting up of computer labs in 4,286 schools at a cost of five billion rupees.
He said that millions of students are acquiring IT education each year under Punjab IT Labs project. He also pointed out that 40,000 educators were recruited first time in the history of the country on the basis of merit and eligibility through a transparent procedure. The labour department has also introduced reforms in its schools system to provide quality education to the children of labourers, he added.
