The net loss of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has reduced to Rs 5.416 billion in the nine-month period ended March 31, 2011 as compared to Rs 13.298 billion posted in the corresponding period last year. The board of directors of the company in its meeting held on Tuesday declared that the company's loss per share (basic) has declined to Re 0.25 in the period under review against Re 0.67 in the same period a year back while loss per share (diluted) stood at Re 0.23 against Re 0.63.
According to the financial results sent to Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), the company's revenue including sale of energy, tariff adjustment and rental of meters and equipment increased to Rs 90.585 billion in this period against Rs 71.215 billion in the same period last year.
Out of the total revenue, the company's sale of energy increased to Rs 59.958 billion Rs 49.354 billion, tariff adjustment Rs 30.467 billion against Rs 21.705 billion and rental of meters and equipment Rs 159.868 million against Rs 155.634 million. In the company's expenditure account, the company's purchase of electricity increased to Rs 46.402 billion against Rs 43.370 billion while consumption of fuel and oil increased to Rs 32.776 billion against Rs 24.328 billion. The company's expenses incurred in generation, transmission and distribution increased to Rs 10.877 billion against Rs 7.106 billion.
The company's loss before taxation stood at Rs 6.752 billion in the nine month period this year against Rs 13.298 billion recorded in the same period a year back. On three-month basis, the company's net loss reduced to Rs 2.301 billion in the quarter ended March 31, 2011 against a net loss of Rs 4.409 billion posted in the same quarter last year.
