Secretary General Jamaat-i-Islami, Liaquat Baloch has said PPP's claims of being a labour friendly party have been proved false because of its anti-worker policies. He expressed deep concern over the workers plight in the Pakistan Steel Mill and said that the federal and the Sindh governments should pay attention immediately to the matter for saving the institution from further destruction.
Baloch said, the Pakistan Steel Mill was the country's biggest steel making institution where thousands of workers were working day and night for the development of the country. However, he said, these workers were deprived of basic facilities and benefits including job security. A few anti-social elements were harassing the workers in order to continue their exploitation. The workers were not being paid their annual dues. Hundreds of PS workers were facing numerous problems after their transfer from Grade 7 to PSE- 1 as their problems were not being solved. The agreement for lifelong medical facility was also not being implemented.
He said that nepotism in the grant of Workers Welfare loan was the worst form of exploitation as a few officers were helping their relatives and denying the facility to the common worker. Similarly, the daily wage earners in the establishment were being denied the facilities and allowances that were part of the agreement. He further said that Pakistan Steel Mill workers had been given the assurance that the Al-Hadeed Trust would be dissolved but the Mill's management was not honouring its commitment.
