Weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the country on Tuesday as the nation braved another day of long load shedding of electricity for 10 to 15 hours, which also caused short supply of clean drinking water due to closure of tube wells in the cities and towns.
In its weather forecast for Wednesday Met Office said mainly hot and dry weather is expected over the most parts of the country; however, a few light rain may occur over southern Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa. Extremely hot weather is expected over Sindh, it added.
It said little change is expected in the weather outlook for next two days ie Thursday and Friday. Mercury rose up to two degree centigrade in almost all the cities across the country, as highest maximum temperature 46.5 C was recorded Noor Pur Thal in Punjab and the lowest minimum temperature in Pakistan 5.0 centigrade was recorded at Malamjabba in KP.
Meanwhile, due to hot weather in upper regions of the country water inflow in the live four rivers of the country has been steadily rising. On Tuesday it had reached the level of 2,10,000 cusecs, Indus at Tarbela 60,400 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera 51,000 cusecs, Jhelum 70,200 cusecs, and river Chenab 30,000 cusecs.
Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is discharging 50,000 cusecs water each from Tarbela and Mangla dams downstream for generation of electricity and sowing of Kharif crops including cotton, rice and sugarcane in the four provinces. Irsa has so far stored 1.320 MAF water in the Mangla dam on river Jhelum, 0.3 MAF in Tarbela dam and 0.1 MAF in Chashma barrage.
