The Supreme Court on Monday will resume hearing of a presidential reference seeking revisiting of the murder case of Pakistan's first democratically Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
The apex court's larger bench headed by Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will take up the decision of death sentence given to ZAB in 1979, billed by a large number of political stalwarts, jurists and civil society members as a 'judicial murder' of one of the most popular leaders of the country. The reference was sent to the Supreme Court by President Asif Ali Zardari under Article 186 of the Constitution to revisit ZAB murder case. Dr Babar Awan, counsel for the referring authority, would resume his arguments over various aspects of the trial in the light of five questions raised by the president. The court has already appointed 10 prominent legal experts and jurists as amicus curie (friends of court).
