Islamabad Police have nabbed 4,543 persons including 589 proclaimed offenders during first four months of the current yeas, besides recovering commodities costing about Rs 99.8 million from their possession. In it efforts to provide security to lives and property of the citizens, Capital Police succeeded in arresting 4,543 persons during the year for their alleged involvement in anti-social activities, said a report on the performance of Capital Police released here on Monday.
Police recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition, drugs and contraband along with stolen and snatched items worth Rs 99.8 million from the detained outlaws, the report added. The report presented to SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan also revealed that during its anti-beggars campaign 774 beggars were arrested from different areas of Islamabad.
The report revealed that during the period 20 gangs of car thieves and car snatchers were busted and 80 car thieves and snatchers were arrested from whom 72 stolen and 14 snatched vehicles were recovered.
During the said period, police recovered 3.751 kg heroin, 7.055 kg opium, 151 kg charas and 7,927 bottles of liquor from the detained drug pushers. Police also recovered 18 rifles of different bore, 17 guns (12-bore), five Kalashnikov assault rifle, 294 pistols, 12 daggers and 2,781 bullets of different caliber from the nabbed criminals, the report stated.
As many as 1132 suspects were arrested by various police stations of Islamabad and action was taken against 68 persons for violating Shop and Security Ordinance. Meanwhile, Islamabad police also arrested 125 gamblers from whom stake money and valuables were recovered. The SSP reviewed overall performance of Islamabad police force and further directed all police officials to accelerate their anti-criminals drive.
The SSP directed the police officials to make security and vigilance committees more vibrant and review their performance from time to time. He said that beat officers should also be made more active and strict patrolling to be ensured in the various areas.
