At least five policemen including SP Keamari Town Tariq Mughal were injured due to scuffle with protestors in the limits of Mariipur police station on Monday A protest demonstration staged by flood-victims, who took to streets to express their growing disenchantment against unfriendly attitude of the authorities concerned, scuffled with police personnel.
They burnt tyres on road and pelted stones on policemen and vehicles at Maripur road, which led to injure five policemen including SP Kemari Town Tariq Mughal, Sub-Inspector Azam Khan, Head Constable Mumtaz, PC Kumar and PC Naeem. When contacted, Station Office Maripur Nasurllah dispelled the impression that the protesters were flood-affectees, saying that although the registration process of flood-hit people was completed, the influx was still in progress from Interior Sindh.
He said the protest was aimed at pressing the authorities concerned to allot the land of camp-city to the inhabitants besides demanding to provide all essential food stuff to the new settlers. Instead of going back to hometown, the protesters, who were the inhabitants of the right bank of Indus River and having political-backing, were demanding to allocate the land of camp-city to them. He said that several government officials including TPO, EDO, DDO were rushed to the spot and tried to start negotiation with them but the enraged protesters refused to do so. Then, the police started firing tear-gas shells to disperse them.
