After sanitation issue, Akshay Kumar now discusses menstrual hygiene in ‘PadMan’
Akshay Kumar always chooses an unconventional way to raise awareness about social issues. After delivering a hit like ‘Toilet; Ek Prem Katha’, he is now back with another flick, which promises to be the story of a social awakening.
The makers have released official trailer of Kumar’s upcoming movie ‘PadMan’ on social media. A film based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who took upon himself the responsibility of providing cheaper sanitary napkins to the women of his village. In PadMan, Akshay plays the titular superhero, who strives to provide a hygienic life to the women of his family.

His interest and efforts is to ease the experience of menstruation for hundreds of Indian women, especially those living in rural areas.
Talking to Business Insider, Akshay said, “I didn’t want to make a documentary, I wanted to make a commercial film so people can see it. It’s a film you can take your children to, even though it talks about sanitary pads. It’s a universal subject. Nobody has ever tried to touch this subject.”
Earlier, he raised similar kind of social issue, which highlighted importance of improving sanitation conditions in India.
